Baby’s Developments
The foetus is about 13 cm long now (a little smaller than an average woman’s hand) and weighs about 140 g. The skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to hard bone and even the sweat glands are starting to develop. The foetus is also starting to develop some body fat and the heartbeat is now fully regulated by the brain, instead of being random. The placenta, which transports nourishment and oxygen to the foetus, and removes toxic waste, is also growing to accommodate your growing baby.
Changes in the Mother
You will now be having an appetite that you have most likely never had before in your life. This is because your baby is growing rapidly and demanding more and more energy and nutrients. Be mindful that you must eat healthy food as much as possible and don’t get into the habit of eating oily or sweet foods just to fill your tummy and get rid of hunger pangs.
You may also notice an increase in vaginal discharge at this stage. This is actually beneficial since its protects your birth canal from infection. You (or your husband!) may notice that you have started snoring loudly in your sleep. This is because the hormones lead to nose block. Try keeping 2 pillows and elevating your head.
