Baby’s Developments
The eyes and ears of the foetus are almost in their correct positions now and the sex organs too are distinguishable but not completely formed. The lungs are developed and slight breathing movements can be observed. The vocal cords begin to form. The amniotic fluid that the foetus swallows passes out through its bladder. The bones, ribs and spine start hardening and the arms become proportionate with the rest of the body. The foetus can make quite a lot of movements now ranging from kicking, rotating wrists and ankles, pursing its lips together, to facial expressions such as smiling and frowning. The foetus measures approximately 5.5 cm and weighs around 14 g.
Changes in the Mother
Since the uterus has now grown out and above the pelvis, the necessity to urinate somewhat reduces for now (but will increase again in the last few weeks or months). Your bump will be visible now. So you may want to buy some maternity wear. Week 12 ends the first trimester of your pregnancy.
