Let us see what ultrasound exams show during different stages.

 The First trimester

  • This confirms pregnancy, and how many fetuses are inside the uterous
  • This also confirms if the fetus is outside the uterous
  • Detects heartbeat
  • Indicates the gestational age
  • It will also show abnormalities in the fetus

The Second Trimester

  • Diagnose fetal malformation
  • Confirm multiple pregnancies
  • Detects intrauterine deaths
  • Verify dates and growth
  • See if there is an excessive or reduced levels of amniotic fluid
  • Assess fetal well-being including fetal movement, tone, breathing movements

The third trimester

  • Here the doctor is able to identify the placental location
  • Observe fetal presentation (Such as breech position) and movements
  • Pelvic abnormalities of the mother
