Now that you have spent the most trying but amazing month you will not have trouble getting accustomed to the second one. But it will be important that you understand what takes place in this month nonetheless as the simple facts such as how your baby plays or how he or she speaks, react and learn will hint on the development process of your baby.

Let’s take a look at some milestones that your baby will encounter this month.

Your baby will begin to smile not just when you are around but also at others who are around him or her. The baby will see objects and people that are very close and also turn the head to the direction where the object of his or her interest is. He or she will also look at your face while being fed. The baby of this age will show interest in the faces around him or her. The baby will also not keep the hands in tight fits that he or she is quite used to.

Along with sight the sense of hearing will also improve through this month. That means that the baby will understand and even respond well to the sound of something familiar. At this age coos and gurgling sounds will be the baby’s sole communication tool.

Now this age is also when your baby starts to show boredom and become a little fussy. He or she needs action to keep company of. Bright toys would keep the baby company.

The most important factor of the baby in this month is that he or she can hold the head up and begin to push up when he or she is laid on the stomach. This will indicate that your baby is ready to crawl or move about even though that activity wouldn’t start right away. However leg and arm movements will be more improved than it was in the first month.

Tips for parents this month

During this month your baby will start to learn by watching those around him or her. This means that you will be the person that the baby will mostly show interest on. Since every action is still very new to your baby you will have to demonstrate certain actions a little. This could be trying to grab something or even laughing out. Your baby will get the hang of things in no time.

Your baby will expect to be fed more often this month. Try to follow the baby’s lead. Feed only when the baby show signs of hunger. The baby will also show signs of tiredness when he or she is fed. Try to encourage this a little so that your baby will not be fussy afterwards. Sleep time will vary from nine hours to eighteen hours.

This month your baby will gain some weight. Don’t worry if the weight varies in certain weeks. Your baby will remain a certain weight soon.

Your six month old baby https://babyspace.lk/2018/05/01/your-six-month-old-baby/ Tue, 01 May 2018 00:00:00 +0000 http://babyspace.lk/2018/05/01/your-six-month-old-baby/ What can your baby do this month?

Your baby is now half a year old! This could be very exciting. From this month onwards you could start your baby on formula milk or solid food.

You will see a change in the growth of your baby, especially the height. However our baby’s head will still be large in proportion to the body. The motor skills of your baby this month will also show a change. The baby will sit up on his or her own without any support. He or she will use the hands as aid to get up.

Your baby will also roll back and forth on the tummy without any trouble. This is the early sign of crawling. He or she will use both hands alike to feel, grab and throw objects.

The little one will also show communication development. Babies this age will have a perception of words with meaning. That means when the baby sees the mother he or she will say am-ma and the father tha-tha. Your baby will also show comfortableness when with family members and certain uneasiness when in the company with strangers.

Your baby will be able to stand and support the weight for a short while. However your baby will not stand on his or her own yet. The baby will also be able to sit up own his or her own.

There will be signs of teeth too in this month.

Tips for parents this month

Feeding will be your new agenda. Babies will reject solid food at the beginning and to make your baby like the food that is given you will have to experiment a little. Try to make pureed food such as fruits and vegetables. Add a bit of breast milk at first till your baby gets the hang of it.

Another important thing is getting to know your baby’s allergies. He or she will be allergic to anything. So try giving small portions at first and them is there is no allergic reactions to it carry on the diet.

Your baby could catch his or her first cold during this month. You will feel that your baby is not well even though he or she looks fine. Consult your doctor if this is the case because it is important that the baby stay healthy during the first year.

Play games like peek a boo with the little one. These activities will help the baby to understand certain facts such as even though they can’t see something they are not entirely gone.

Also keep a close look on the baby’s milestones and if the little one is reaching them not very late. If you sense that something is amiss contact your doctor for help.

Encourage every little movement of your baby. Leave his or her toys a little away so that he or she will have to bend a little to reach for it.

Trying to have a Baby? https://babyspace.lk/2013/04/01/trying-to-have-a-baby/ https://babyspace.lk/2013/04/01/trying-to-have-a-baby/#respond Mon, 01 Apr 2013 00:00:00 +0000 http://babyspace.lk/2013/04/01/trying-to-have-a-baby/ A baby is a big decision between a couple, and most couples often plan before having a baby to suite the lifestyle of the family. It is quite rare to have unplanned pregnancies after a marriage in Sri Lankan society, though there are reports of young single unmarried mothers having babies as results of various complicated situations.

When a couple plans to have a baby they will be advised by medical professionals to go for a pre pregnancy counselling session. There are many topics that will be covered in this session including topics life family illnesses, pregnancy related complications due to age, illness, and risk factors of having a baby.

Often parents who are unable to have children will seek advice in fertility treatments, and most hospitals now have facilities and clinics for these treatments.

Couples having a baby will have to go for regular checkups and often need to make themselves ready to change in lifestyle. Ultimately all couples will learn that pregnancy is a serious condition that needs thought and care and a lot of support from friends, family and society.

Introducing Solid Food for Baby https://babyspace.lk/2013/03/27/introducing-solid-food-to-your-baby-2/ https://babyspace.lk/2013/03/27/introducing-solid-food-to-your-baby-2/#respond Wed, 27 Mar 2013 15:56:35 +0000 http://www.babyspace.lk/?page_id=1440 Now you have reached the next major milestone of your baby. Introducing solid food can be tricky and fun at the same time. As you are about to teach your bundle of joy healthy food habits for the following years of his or her life you have to be careful about each step you take. In addition, another thing that is ideal to be aware of is that since your baby has enough time to experience the delicacies there is no need to hasten the process.

The following tips and facts will help you to understand this change.

However, we should not forget that breast milk is the main source of nutrition and food to your baby during the first 6 months, and that the following food categories come second to the richness of breast milk.

How do I know that my baby is ready for solid food?

This is the first question that would arise for any parent. It is easy to know the right time for this if you understand your baby. When the baby is ready for solid food he or she will give off signs that will indicate the necessity of solid food such as waking up late at night very hungry and consume milk more than he or she used to.

You should keep in mind that the ideal time to introduce solid is following your baby’s sixth month.

However as many mothers go back to work mainly in the fourth month, it is accepted that babies can be started on solid food but in liquid form.

How to start the process of solid foods?

After you get to know that your baby is ready for solid food the best food for your baby are fruits and certain vegetables such as sweet potato, banana, avocado and green beans. At the start it is important to mash these foods to make it easy for baby to swallow.

However, remember to give a certain food at a time as the baby’s system is getting used to the alien food. Therefore, we recommend staying for 2-3 days before you introduce the next food. While you give this time, observe if your baby is showing any allergic reactions such as vomiting, rashes, and diarrhoea to the food you fed him or her with. If you detect any of them immediately stop giving her the food and consult your doctor for further inspection.

After a few months you can introduce several foods each day.
