Your baby is about 21.5 inches long from head to toe and weighs a little more than 7.5 pounds. Your baby is now fully developed and testing breathing and moving around in the womb. If your due date has passed do not worry as it is normal and quite common in most cases.

]]>Your baby is about 21.5 inches long and weighs about 7 pounds. Your baby is now well developed and strong enough to survive outside the womb, you might find though that your baby still has not decided to come out. Which is normal.

The weight you have gained is making you unsteady and it is not difficult to walk too. Its also difficult to sleep with your belly.
Tips for this Week
Remember to watch your baby’s movement, any sign of reduced movement means you should go to your doctor immediately
Try and rest as often as possible as you are finding it difficult anyhow to breath at times, apart from other ailments like back aches and pain in your feet
You are now at the full term of your baby’s development! Your baby is now fully developed and ready to see the world outside the womb. All vital organs are now fully developed including lungs.

There is no change to the difficulties you are facing during these last few weeks. However this is a good time to learn about postpartum depression. Your baby is now about 21 inches and weighs more than 6.5 pounds. Your baby is now in a downward position getting ready for birth. Your doctor will perform tests to see the progress.
Changes in the Mother
This is a very difficult time for most mothers. From moving around to sleeping, there will be one or more difficulty that most women will face. This can range from back aches, swelling the feet to excessive sweating. Though you might think you want the baby out, the baby is simply not ready.
The only way your doctor will induce your pregnancy is if there is some complication associated with the pregnancy. Don’t worry try your best to hold on – its not very long now.

You will be feeling some pressure on your lower abdomen, so consult your doctor for any remedies. If you are considering any exercise during this time, again seek your doctors advice as this is a very important time as your baby is due soon! You will also be experiencing back pain and pain the pelvic area but all this is normal.
Tips for this Week
Note any signs of labour like increase in secretions and the water breaking.
Keep a pillow to support your back while sleeping, and also one between your legs while sleeping on your side
Drink alot of water, and keep some healthy night time snacks like fruits and fibre rich foods in case you are waking up in the night to eat

Your baby measures about 20.25 inches and weighs more than 5.5 pounds. The lungs are now almost fully developed.
Changes in the Mother
You will gain most of the weight during this time. Discomfort and sleeping problems are common around this time mainly due to frequent urination, and your growing belly.
Tips for this Week
Keep a pillow to support your back while sleeping, and also one between your legs while sleeping on your side
Drink alot of water, and keep some healthy night time snacks like fruits and fibre rich foods in case you are waking up in the night to eat

Your baby is about 19.8 inches and weighs about 5 pounds. The organs are now almost fully developed again except for the lungs. Your baby is now likely to be in a head down position, getting ready for birth. However, if the baby is in a breech position your doctor will inform you if this is something to be alarmed about as there is time till 37 weeks for baby to move into the head down position.

Apart from the other difficulties of the third trimester you may be feeling more Braxton Hicks contractions. Apart from that you would notice increase weight gain, and you are definitely finding it hard to get around.

Consider learning about breast feeding during this time.
Many birthing classes in hospitals will help with introducing this to you.
Again try and take it easy, and if any time you are finding it too difficult to carry out your usual work, take a break.

You may continue to get backaches, leg cramps and other aches and pains. Also you may have colostrum — a yellowish fluid that comes before milk production – leaking from your breasts. Most weight gained during will be contributed to the baby, so do not worry about what you eat, but eat healthy.

Also watch for any signs of unusual bloating in the hands and feet that do not disappear (Which could be due to high blood pressure)

Your baby is not about 18 inches long and weighs about 3.5 pounds. Your baby’s hearing is now fully developed therefore can hear sounds from outside.

You might have gained a lot more weight than in the previous trimesters. And you might be going through the usual difficulties this time around like finding it difficult to sleep, needing to urinate more often, and if you are working you might even doze off once in a while. All this is normal however.
Tips for this Week
Attend a childbirth class provided by your hospital. In Sri Lanka you will most often find these classes in private hospitals. These classes will help you to gain more insight into the birth process and baby care.
What ever labour process you select, feel free to talk to your doctor about any doubts and your options for pain management during labour.
